[edit] Multimodal Route Finding

Cyclopath can produce multimodal routes, i.e., routes that combine bicycling and public transit. The user interface features to enable multimodal routing are simple: just select the "Use Metro Transit buses when possible" option in the route finding dialog.

You can fine tune your multimodal route request by using the "More Biking ... More Busing" slider. This lets you influence the amount of each mode to include in your route. Try setting the slider all the way to the left to get a route that's all or mostly biking, and all the way to to the right to get a route that's all or mostly transit. Of course, the route finder is still trying to find the best possible route and will combine the two modes to do so while taking your preferences into account.

Multimodal routes are displayed on the map with the transit segments colored dark blue and the bicycle segments colored yellow. Mode transitions, i.e., the points where you get on or off a bus, also are shown on the map. If you wish to change how a route line is colored on the map (e.g., to get more details about the cycling segments of the route), you can do so by using the "Color route by" drop-down control in the Route Details panel.

The Cue Sheet for a multimodal route gives the details for the route: turn-by-turn cycling instructions and the locations and times when you will get on and off buses.

We know that multimodal routing choices can be complex, and we are very interested in learning the way you, our users, prefer to combine bicycling and transit in your routes. Please give us feedback to let us know how well we are doing and to help us serve your needs better. You can provide feedback in two ways:

(1) When Cyclopath shows you a route it has computed, there is a button labeled "Feedback on this Route" in the upper lefthand corner of the "Route Details" panel for that route. Click this button to fill out a feedback form.

(2) Send us email at info@cyclopath.org.
