Subject: Volunteers needed to alpha-test bike geowiki

Folks,

As some of you know, I'm a researcher at the University of Minnesota working in human-computer interaction. We are developing a new online system for bicyclists, a geowiki called Cyclopath. We are preparing to go live in the next few months, and we need help now from people who are willing to use and test the system during this final phase.

[edit] Setting up an alpha tester account

Important note: Joint accounts are not permitted. Requests for an account that imply multiple people will be using them should be returned for disambiguation.

Write an e-mail to the user based on the following template:

Subject: Cyclopath alpha testing
Reply-to: info@cyclopath.org

Dear $NAME,

Thank you for helping us as an alpha tester!

We have created your Cyclopath account with the username you requested. A temporary password will be arrive shortly in a separate e-mail. You will need to change this password to activate your account; use a unique password that you do not use for anything else.

Note that by activating your account, you affirm that you have read and agree to the user agreement and privacy policy, located at <http://cyclopath.org/wiki/User_Agreement>.

Please note: Alpha testing is not just a way to get early access to Cyclopath. You are asking to participate in the development process.

To get started:
1. Subscribe to the cyclopath-users discussion group by following the directions at <http://cyclopath.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists>.
2. Activate your account by following the link included with your temporary password.

Finally, please remember that Cyclopath is under active development. Some things will be broken, and there will be occasional boneheaded mistakes. Please e-mail cyclopath-users@googlegroups.com with any problems you encounter, and we will fix things as quickly as we can.

  1. Go to http://cyclopath.org/wiki?title=Special:Userlogin&type=signup
  2. Type in the info. Use a dummy password from the paper list. Leave "Real Name" blank.
  3. Click "by e-mail".
  4. A new account will be created (you will not be logged into it). The system will e-mail a temporary password to the user.
